Greetings! I’m Bob Reinsch, and it seems like I’ve been working with desktops forever… or at least since I first wrapped my hands around the blocky keyboard of a Commodore PET back in the 70’s. As one of the Microsoft Certified Trainers on staff here at Centriq, my sphere of influence includes Microsoft’s current desktop offering, Vista, as well as Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory and Network Security. I tend to bounce around from one topic to the next from week to week, but I try to keep everything tied together to present an enterprise perspective on today’s IT Pro environment. My goal is to provide information that solves a problem, whether it’s deployment tools for Vista, or how Service Pack 1 for Exchange 2007 can streamline the IT Pro’s workflow. A couple of places to start are the Vista Team’s Blog, as well as a favorite of mine, You Had Me at EHLO, the blog of the Microsoft Exchange Team. Here’s hoping you have many 9’s of uptime.

My own list of cool things I like about Vista...
1. I love the Sidebar, and some gadgets I can't do without, even if the Sidebar is collapsed. Detach that gadget and leave it on your desktop.
2. ReadyBoost. Need more RAM? Get a USB thumbdrive and plug it in, use it as extra RAM. It's faster than a pagefile.
3. Sideview. Have a little monitor on your Windows Mobile phone or PDA while it's attached to your PC.
4. Windows Media Center. My computer can be a DVR and integrate with my cable box. W00T!
5. Disk Management. It's nice now that I can shrink and expand my hard disk as part of the OS without using a third party product.
