Teaching Visual Studio 2005 - Part 1

Tags:

This week (and next) I am teaching Visual Studio 2005 (or 2008) and I thought it would be nice to share some of the insights I get almost every day in teaching and explaining the .NET technology.

One thing that is really nice in Visual Studio 2005/8 is the Document Outline window. This tool is used with Windows and Web forms and provides an outline of all the objects (and tags for Web pages) on the form so that it is much easier to select an object. Sometimes the forms "hide" objects, making them difficult to see and select, and the Properties window dropdown can be difficult to navigate. Ctrl-Alt-T opens the Document Outline window and shows everything in an intuitive hierarchical view. Anything you select in it will automatically be selected in the designer and properties window.
